Just Like Apples 🌿🍎 Cannabis varieties, and how to choose between them, can be likened to the different kinds of apples (Granny Smith, Ambrosia, Gala, Pink Lady) — same plant, different varieties. Interestingly, there are cannabis varieties with apple aromas and flavors such as Apple Kush, Sour Apple, Green Apple OG, Apple Jack, and Apple Fritter. Two cannabis chemovars, Apples and Bananas [(Platinum Cookies x Granddaddy Purple) x Blue Power x Gelatti] and Apple Fritter (Sour Apple x Animal Cookies) made SunMed Growers' 12 Best Cannabis Strains of 2024, #5 and #9, respectively. The terpenes terpinolene and alpha- and beta-farnesene give cannabis that apple aroma and flavor. They are found not only in cannabis but in some apples, lilacs, nutmeg, and other herbs, fruits, and flowers. Terpinolene carries antifungal, antibacterial, sedative, and anti-cancer effects; farnese has anti-inflammatory effects and tumor-inhibiting properties. It also produces a calming effect that reduces muscle spasms and cramps. See The Big Book of Terps by Russ Hudson for more information on these two cannabis terpenes and much more! Another interesting comparison to apples (apple ciders, specifically) that has become a thing in the cannabis industry, just like it is for apples, wine, and cheese, is appellation (pronouced "apple" -ation, not intended but kinda cool anyways). An appellation is a geographical name (as of a region, village, or vineyard) under which a grower is authorized to identify and market. The National Institute of Appellations of Origin (INAO) recognizes apple orchard appellations, where cider is made from the natural juice of apples grown in specific geographical regions. In the cannabis industry, on November 23, 2021, the Office of Administrative Law (OAL) approved the California Department of Food & Agriculture(CDFA) proposed regulations for establishing appellations of origin for cannabis and on February 2, 2024, submitted proposed regulations to amend the Cannabis Appellation Program (CAP). For a little bit of cannabis culture, apples have been used for smoking weed for, well let's just say, for a really long time. It's a thing within the cannabis community, that's for sure, and there are a ton of articles and videos with DIY instructions available online. Apple Pipe / Bong (see image) Just for chuckles, check out Josh Blue, a comedian who loves smoking weed out of an apple. _______________________________________________________________________________ References Apple Cannabis Strains SunMed Grower's 12 Best Cannabis Strains of 2024 Sousa A, Vareda J, Pereira R, Silva C, Câmara JS, Perestrelo R.
