The Cannabis Regulators Association (CANNRA) recently released their best practices for regulating cannabinoids to ensure consumer safety, and this is GOLD. IMO, this effort is a huge step forward for the cannabis industry, providing clear and comprehensive guidelines to follow. Here’s a quick rundown of the 7 KEY best practices they’ve identified: ➡️ Licensing Requirements: Ensuring all processors, manufacturers, and retailers are properly licensed. ➡️ Processing & Manufacturing Standards: Implementing rigorous safety and quality standards. ➡️ Age-Gating Products: Particularly intoxicating products and requiring strict requirements for age verification in certain settings. ➡️ Product Form, Dose & Content Regulations: Setting limits to prevent overconsumption and ensure safety. ➡️ Packaging & Labeling: Clear, informative, and child-resistant packaging (when appropriate). ➡️ Advertising Regulations: Preventing misleading ads and avoiding targeting children. ➡️ Education, Compliance & Enforcement: Ongoing programs to ensure adherence to these standards. I applaud Cannabis Regulators Association (CANNRA)'s efforts for several reasons: 1. Proactive Approach: Bringing everyone to the table to hash out best practices really shows their dedication to responsible regulation that isn't created in a vacuum. 2. Consumer Protection: By putting public health and safety first, they’re setting a high bar and building trust in the industry. 3. Educational Resource: This document is a goldmine of info for regulators, industry folks, and the public alike. 4. Industry Leadership: They’re truly stepping up as leaders with guidance that others can follow (while still allowing room for flexibility as the industry evolves). There’s a lot to unpack in their document (linked at the bottom), so I might dive deeper into each best practice in future posts. For now, I'd love to hear your thoughts: What do you think are the biggest challenges and benefits these regulations could bring to the cannabis industry?
