As a physician of a special-needs child with multiple medical issues, I am mortified by the college for this propaganda. The disability tax credit form in Canada can be filled out in the office with the patient and it is the doorway to many services. Physicians often complain about it and refuse to do it and this has a direct impact on patient care. It also has a direct impact on patients being able to access resources such as the RDSP and other government services. We are not the judge of who gets it, we just fill it out. My son has this, and that will allow him to have services available to help him for the rest of his life. His doctors have been amazing filling it out, and I often feel bad asking them. I am so embarrassed that my colleagues and the college are spreading this propaganda. It has to stop. We are advocates as a profession and as a family doctor we need to advocate for resources for our patients. This form is one of the major forms of advocacy that we can do for a patient. I think everybody should know about what the college of family physicians is putting out.
