Immunity-Boosting with Herbs: Ginger Root, Lemongrass & More To take preventative measures during cold and flu season, I’m really enjoying my own herbal blend of lemongrass, ginger root, dandelion leaf, and oat straw. As we venture through this time, it’s important to find ways to reduce stress and inflammation in your body, because all diseases start with inflammation. Herbal infusions are always a great form of ongoing immune system support, but consider the other ways you may be contributing to inflammation in your body through: excess sugar, overly-processed foods, simplex carbs, and trans fats, to name a few. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is so important! Here are some of the benefits of the herbs I listed: Ginger root: Ginger root has incredible anti-inflammatory properties and is known to reduce pain, stimulate circulation, and inhibit rhinovirus, which can cause the common cold. It may help ease digestive discomfort. Lemongrass: Lemongrass has antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal properties. It has traditionally been used as a pain reliever and fever reducer. Lemongrass also contains iron, calcium, and vitamin C. Dandelion Leaf: Dandelion is rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, fiber, potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and phosphorus. It is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, for detoxing the liver, regulating blood sugar levels and reducing cholesterol. Oat straw: Oat straw helps strengthen bones, soothes the nervous system, stabilizes blood sugar, and relieves stress. It’s a great source of calcium, fiber, calcium, potassium, iron, vitamin A, vitamin C, dietary fiber and antioxidants. Do you find yourself reaching for herbs this season? Share with me!
